Congress won the 2009 election with an unexpected 206 seats thereby giving much needed stability to India. Manmohan Singh took over as the Prime Minister of India while we saw Sonia Gandhi smiling like never before. A lot has been said about Rahul Gandhi’s contribution to the party. 28 years old woman is sworn as minister. Then, there is influx of youngistan in Congress party supposedly an initiative by Rahul Gandhi.
So suddenly , Congress party is going through a transformation from being the party of the oldies to youngistan.
In another 5 years, we could expect Rahul Gandhi contesting for Prime Minister’s post. But is he the only contender for the post? Could Priyanka Gandhi be competing for the same post?
While Rahul Gandhi is an impression of Ragiv Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi is an impression of Indira Gandhi. Apart from physical resemblence, do they also posses traits of them?
I was born the same year when Indira Gandhi was assassinated and do not remember much about Ragiv Gandhi’s tenure either. So comparing their qualities with their children or grand children would be futile.
Still why is it that Priyanka Gandhi looks more apt for Prime Minister ship than Rahul Gandhi? Is it their body language?
Rahul seems introvert while Priyanka on the other hand comes as an extrovert person. Rahul is seen mostly in traditonal political attire while Priyanka on many occassions is seen in western clothes apart from the usual traditonal politcal attire meant for women. She personifies today’s woman and speaks her mind. This was evident when she refuted, “Do I look old to you?” to Modi’s statement on Congress being a 120 years old lady. On the otherside, Rahul Gandhi appears like someone who is following Congress party’s code of conduct and trying always to be politically correct. Rahul seems like learning the tricks of the game while Priyanka seems to know it all. All this could be deceiving and my mere perception. But what is certain is that one of the two is definitely going to lead India in the coming days.
