Backstage Boys: Punjab’s Labour Goes Global: The film reflects the impact of globalization on the century-old tradition immigration from
Punjab to the West. Marginal Punjabi farmers, unable to survive on small land holdings, are lured by the promise of plenty abroad.
Despite the increasingly tough immigration laws abroad & the inherent risks involved in illegal international travel, there is a constant
stream of brave, adventurous & perhaps foolhardy young men willing to
take chances. (30 minutes) The film by a multiple award winning
filmmaker maps this journey, fraught as it is with danger, deportation and even death.

I for India: This is the story of a family of Indian immigrants in England and their relatives who have stayed back in India. For 40 years the families correspond through letters in the form of super-8mm films. When, after 17 years, the dream of the triumphant return seemed
likely to come true, it was too late. The family seemed too “western” for their home country and just nine months later returned to England.

Despite all successful integration, the conflict between the two cultures and two “native countries” continues in the lives of the daughters. (70mins)
